Designer Stories: Almarinov

Tell us a little about yourself!

My name is Alexander. I live in Bulgaria, I am 42 years old and growing. I am a multimedia designer, and for the last six years I am mainly a watch face designer. Love walking in the woods, fishing, metal detecting, building and arranging, gardening, eating and drinking.

What got you interested in watch face design? How did you find Facer?

As many others like me, when I bought my first smartwatch I started digging for how to customize my display to my liking, and then I came across Facer. There were some good designers here already, and when I tried to make my own watch face, I was surprised how easy it is with the given tools. I already had the advantage in the designing business, and was looking for something interesting to develop my skills further. This came at the right time for me. From then on I dedicated my entire time to the platform and gained a lot of interest and followers, and later became a partner.

Which of your watch face designs and/or collections are you most proud of and why?

I am proud with all of my designs because I put myself into every design I create. I have a lot favorite ones and I use them all the time, and switch faces almost on the minute. When a Facer user sends me a message, comment, or shares a watch face with my design, I almost immediately put it on my watch and share it forward. One of my favorite ones is the BENE (BENE ULTRA) watch face — super simple and strong design, perhaps that’s why it is so very much appreciated by smartwatch users around the world.

What tips would you give to someone just starting on Facer?

Aim for the best, don’t hurry, do it for yourself, make what suits your taste, and don’t expect to be liked by everyone. Don’t copy any other designer’s work, not even partially, and generate your own vision only. This is very important because Facer is a community, and copying equals to burning bridges in the community! Every great designer here is recognizable only by their work and style, and they both build the signature that everyone who starts using Facer should put under their name, and be proud of it.

What’s next for you as a designer? Any exciting future projects?

I move with the flow; whenever something changes I develop and adapt. Designing comes from within your head and you will always find your inspiration in there. I only need the tools to help me show the world what I can create. As the tools develop, and as long as I am sane, my next project is a surprise even to me!
